2015 Clare vintage was described by some as text book for growing conditions. A short ripening period with early harvest across the region, which imparted good natural acidity and bright fruit flavours for great balance. Strong winter rains prepared the vines for a hot summer and rain a month before harvest. In Clare, Sangiovese is less than 1% of the regions red grape yield so is very specialised and ultra premium in this cool climate region. Extremely delicate and fine, the wine was aged in seasoned French oak barrels for a little over two years, with minimal intervention, and gently fined before bottling.
Deep cardinal red
Bright currants with a hint of toasted oak.
Structure and savouriness set apart this elegant wine with Morello cherry and hints of plum. Balanced by chocolate, fine acid and silky tannin. Layered dark fruits with a stylish earthiness, this is a serious Sangiovese.
This Italian-originating variety craves Italian and full flavoured game meats, tomato ragu, veal scaloppine and cheeses.
