Our Vineyards

Scotts Creek Vineyard

The vineyard of Scotts Creek is adjacent to the River Murray, just 7km downstream from the South Australian historical township of Morgan. The Brenda Park wetlands where Elise Byrne furthers her conservation work are located immediately adjacent to the vineyards. In 1977, 510 hectares of cliff top land was planted to 10 different wine grape varieties and today our vineyard site covers 372 hectares. Its location is pre-eminent due to the availability of a water diversion licence, the extent of the land holdings and the proximity to the winery where all our fruit is processed.

The land is a mosaic of soil types, ranging from deep sands to very shallow sandy loams over limestone with some outcrops of Blanchetown Clay. The area overlooking the wetlands was hand-selected for its stony soils over a limestone base, in order to produce grape varieties of immense character and resilience – Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are the main varieties here along with small plantings of Semillon, Colombard, Riesling, Gordo and Gewurztraminer. The long periods of sunshine and warm dry climate deliver a consistently high quality of fruit.

Glen Devlin Vineyard

Nestled on the picturesque River Murray, the vineyard at Devlin's Pound is situated on the Goyder Highway between Morgan and Renmark. This 300 hectare property first had vines planted in the early 1960s and is the first vineyard site the family owned, with Rob and Terry growing up spending their childhoods here.

It now has over 85 hectares under vine, with the seasonal conditions seeing long, hot dry days and temperate cool nights. These climatic conditions combined with carefully controlled irrigation and the rich alluvial soils of the region give relatively high yields of quality varieties - namely Shiraz, Cabernet and Chardonnay - with the best fruit kept for our own selected wines and the balance sold to various neighbouring wineries.

Clare Valley Vineyards

The town of Clare is situated 136km north of Adelaide and our Flat View Vineyard is just 5kms from the town's main street. We are opposite South Australia's finest country racecourse in the beautiful northern end of the Clare Valley at Stanley Flat and have 36.4 hectares under vine. The Stanley Flat sub-region is the oldest grape producing area in the district and is sheltered by the rising hills of the valley.

The vineyards on this property were planted over 40 years ago, utilising the excellent soil profiles of this site and the underground water supply for irrigation to produce our quality vines. The varieties grown here include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Grenache, Merlot and Sangiovese.

This mature vineyard produces premium quality grapes which generate outstanding premium quality wines with the superb Clare Valley regional characteristics of rich and elegant flavours.

White Hut Vineyard is located in the same area and is 16.5 hectares. This is fully planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz vines in the area of low hills north of Clare, at an elevation of 400 metres above sea level. The area is blessed with a climate ideal for premium grape growing and the combination of consistently good winter rains, hot summers tempered by cool nights and long ripening periods, all combine to produce grapes with exceptional character and balance.

Our Wetlands

Brenda Park Wetlands

Brenda Park Wetlands

The Brenda Park Scotts Creek wetland is located on the floodplain of the River Murray and abuts the family vineyards at Morgan. This is one of the largest wetlands on the River Murray – rated as a wetland of high conservation value – and is 870 hectares in size. The wetlands area incorporates several smaller wetlands in addition to the main Brenda Park lagoon and Scotts Creek for which the vineyard is named.

Terry's wife Elise is committed to caring for the environment and has been instrumental in returning this wetland to its natural state. Already signs are very encouraging, with the regeneration of vegetation sure to help the project achieve a healthy natural environment. Native fauna such as the endangered Growling Grass Frog and Regent Parrot are now thriving in their natural habitat.

Wetlands are a fundamental and valuable part of the Australian wildlife system, providing habitats, breeding sites, and drought refuges for a diversity of native fauna and flora. They are an important feature in our dry landscape with nearly 50% of the natural wetlands destroyed by salinity or other agricultural investments. This in turn endangers the continued existence of the River Murray, the plants and animals which exist in it, and the industries and towns which rely upon it.

A close neighbour to the wetlands is 400 hectares of Heritage Scrub, a protected area with a different ecosystem of flora and fauna, providing a home for animals like wombats, kangaroos and emus.
